Carlisle's Saman shines with bat and ball against Keswick

Professional Saliya Saman was again dominant with both bat and ball as Carlisle swept aside Keswick in the North Lancs Cumbria premier division.

Keswick batted first at Fitz Park but found it difficult coping with Saman and Richard Raybould, and were all out for 98, Andrew Clark top scoring with 22.

Saman took four for 19 and Raybould four for 22. Saman then made 47 to see Carlisle go on to win easily with the loss of just four wickets.

Elsewhere, league leaders Cockermouth were at Workington and had a hard afternoon in the field as Jake Daniel and Simon James both made 51 and Matthew Gorley 41, and at tea, Workington were 247 for 8.

Cockermouth pro Amila Weththasinghe took three for 58. Losing overs to rain, Cockermouth made a valiant effort but were 214 for eight when overs ran out, Gareth White making 111, with Simon James returning five for 47.

Millom batted first at Furness Park but fragile batting saw them all out for 146. Geeth Alwis with 35 and Graham Dawson with 32 were top scorers.

Ryan Tyson took five for 19 and Ian Daniel three for 23 in his 15 overs.

In reply Furness were rocking with four batsmen back in the shed with 19 between them but Ian Daniel was still there, and along with skipper Mike Gadsden saw Furness home at 149 for four, Daniel finishing on 77 not out and Gadsden, who survived an early chance, 31 not out.

Cleator were at Kirkby, and with 86 from Chris Quin and 79 from James Rogers, were 233 for seven at tea.

In reply Kirkby were all out for 99, Mike Fugler making 35 and M Answar 34. Cleator skipper Dave Rooney took four for 11.

In a high scoring game at Lindal, the home side were 230 all out at tea, Chris Brookshaw making 69. For Penrith, spinners Arwyn Jones, four for 32, and Kris McLean, four for 76, did the damage.

After tea Penrith professional Upul Fernando took his side to a good win scoring 122 not out, as Penrith went to 232 for six. Lindal Moor’s John Atkinson took three for 36.

Haverigg were at Whitehaven and at tea were 199 for five, Brenton Parchment making 71 and Robert Bell 55. For Whitehaven, Graham McNicholas took three for 35.

In reply Whitehaven’s Dave Watson again held Whitehaven together making 74, with good support from Jonathan Stewart with 36, as Whitehaven went to the win at 200 for eight in the 48th over.

Haverigg skipper Steve Evans took three for 32 in his 15 overs and Parchment three for 49, also in 15 overs.

Division One

Cleator II at home to Hawcoat Park went in first and were dismissed for 144, of which Steven Wishart made 69.

For Hawcoat Park, Ryan Lucas returned four for 16. In a close finish Hawcoat were on 141 for nine when overs ran out and had to settle for the draw, Chris Savage top scoring with 67. For Cleator Mark Ponticelli took four for 21.

Workington II had first knock at Egremont and were all out in the 50th over for 202, mainly due to opener Nicholas Wood’s 99.

For Egremont Ben Gilmour took four for 44, and Shaun Bostock three for 23.

In reply Egremont opener Ian Littleton was again among the runs with 68 and with support from Steve Hodgson, 35, Egremont held on for the draw at 164 for five. Workington’s Ryan Clubley took three for 32 in 12 overs.

Lanercost were at Seascale, where the home side batted first and got an excellent start and successfully built on that, to total 248 for seven when overs ran out, Andrew Knott making 60, and Steve Brown jnr 52 not out.

Lanercost made a good start but the middle order failed miserably and Lanercost had to hang on for a draw at 133 for nine, Mike Armstrong top scored with 31. For Seascale Steve Brown jnr, took four for 30 and Clayton Lee three for 30.

Promotion hopefuls Wigton gave Ulverston a hard afternoon dismissing them for 95, Luke Kafanka making 22.

Wigton veteran Danny Braithwaite took four for 32 and Michael Holliday three for 29. Wigton went to a nine-wicket win, Tom Fleming scoring 51 not out in the 98 for one total.

The top of the table clash at Walney saw Appleby Eden dismiss Vickerstown for only 90 and went to 91 for five to collect 18 valuable points.

Dalton were at Penrith II and dismissed the home side for 106, when heavy rain brought the game to a premature close, to leave each side with nine points.
