Talk to the Animals at Wetheriggs
Last updated at 19:42, Monday, 31 August 2009
Fancy being a Animal keeper for the day? You can at Wetheriggs Animal Rescue and Conservation Centre just outside Penrith. With over 700 animals to feed it'd certainly be an interesting and varied day.
Wetheriggs staff and volunteers care for many different animals, birds and reptiles at the centre. They provide a lifeline for unwanted farm animals, pets and exotic animals (everything except domestic cats and dogs). On a walk around the centre you will see Trish the fox cub who was brought in when she was only weeks old and hand reared by staff, Squeeky the Harris Hawk, Buzz the Buzzard, Mick the Pig, Charlie the Macaw hanging upside in the trees and Geroge the Vulture who is over 60 years old.
There are many ways in which you can help Wetheriggs Animals - make a donation, visit the centre, sign up as a Volunteer, buy a day as a keeper, help out in the cafe or the shop, sponsor the animals, can you give a home to any of the animals, book the conference centre for an event, talk or demonstration. Donations of old garden sheds, blankets, food especially tinned dog and cat food are always welcome.
Wetheriggs Animal Rescue Centre is open throughout the year, please check their website www.wetheriggsanimalrescue.co.uk for more details.
There is plenty free parking, a cafe, wetheriggs shop, pottery and farm shop selling local produce. Wetheriggs is only 4 miles from Penrith; 10 miles from Appleby; 17 miles from Brough. Wetheriggs Animal Rescue & Conservation Centre, Wetheriggs Pottery, Clifton Dykes, Penrith, Cumbria. CA10 2DH
