Pleasing to see an increase in cattle numbers and the live system easily handling the extra with buyers for every class of stock. Trade would be easier but quality of the clean beef also easier. A tremendous entry of bulls containing some outstanding quality and an excellent result all round.

LAMBS
Again a bigger show and better result than pre-sale predictions foretold. Quality a long way short of previous weeks and with the beginnings of plainer sorts creeping into pens, buyers at these levels are becoming selective. Plainer lambs will be better handled on the green weeks!! Plenty of lambs £25-£30 over with an overall average of over 152p a strong result compared against other outlets today. Better lambs would be dearer than last week and overall the trade would be better given the quality.
Top price of £96.00 was paid for a pen of Texel lambs shown by M/s JW Rae, Greenah Villa, Langrigg and were purchased by RJ Harrison Butchers, King Street, Wigton. Top price of 202.40p pr kg was paid for Beltex lambs shown by M/s Jefferson, Abbey Cowper, Abbeytown.
